Tata Motors has officially launched the Curvv EV, its first midsize coupe SUV, in India. Alongside this launch, the company also introduced the ATLAS platform, which will underpin a range of upcoming petrol and diesel models.
ATLAS: A Versatile Architecture for the Future
The ATLAS (Adaptive Tech Forward Lifestyle Architecture) platform represents Tata Motors’ advanced electrical and electronic architecture. It promises superior ride and handling, top-notch safety, and the flexibility to accommodate multiple powertrain options, including petrol, diesel, and potentially CNG in the future.
This adaptable platform can support vehicles ranging from 3.9 to 4.6 meters in length, with varying wheelbase and width. It is designed to underpin a variety of body styles, such as sedans, hatchbacks, coupe SUVs, and full-size SUVs.
Upcoming Models Based on the ATLAS Platform
While the Curvv ICE will be the first model to utilize the ATLAS architecture, the upcoming Sierra SUV and potentially the future Nexon compact SUV are also expected to be based on this platform. However, it appears that Tata Motors might not introduce any sedans on this architecture.
Curvv ICE: Petrol and Diesel Powertrains
The internal combustion engine (ICE) variant of the Curvv will be available with both petrol and diesel engine options. The 1.2-litre GDI turbo petrol engine is expected to deliver 125 bhp and 225 Nm of torque, while the 1.5-litre diesel engine is anticipated to produce 118 bhp and 260 Nm of torque. Additionally, lower-spec variants might be equipped with the 1.2-litre 3-cylinder turbo petrol engine from the Nexon, which generates 120 bhp and 170 Nm of torque. All engines will come paired with either a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed DCT gearbox.
Curvv EV and ICE Launch Timeline
Tata Motors has already showcased both the EV and ICE versions of the Curvv SUV. While the Curvv EV is priced between Rs 18.45 lakh and Rs 23.20 lakh (on-road, Mumbai), the official unveiling of the ICE variants is scheduled for September 2, 2024.
