BSNL Launches Indigenous 4G Network in Visakhapatnam
BSNL launches its first indigenous 4G network at Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, marking a significant step in its nationwide 4G rollout and India's Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative.

State-owned telecommunications giant, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), has marked a significant achievement in its 4G journey by launching its indigenous 4G network at the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP) in Andhra Pradesh Circle. This deployment is poised to bring high-speed mobile connectivity to this vital industrial hub.

Empowering Industrial Efficiency with BSNL 4G

The advent of BSNL’s 4G network at the steel plant is anticipated to revolutionize communication and operational efficiency within this major steel production facility. The robust network infrastructure will enable seamless data transfer, real-time communication, and support for cutting-edge industrial applications, ultimately boosting productivity and safety at the plant.

As conveyed by BSNL Andhra Pradesh on X (formerly Twitter), “BSNL AP inaugurated Swadeshi 4G services at the steel plant site in Visakhapatnam, AP Circle.” The technology powering this network has been indigenously developed by a consortium comprising Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), the state-run telecom research organization C-DoT, and Tejas Networks.

BSNL 4G Services to Blanket Andhra Pradesh

Earlier in August, TelecomTalk reported BSNL’s plan to launch 4G services in major cities of Andhra Pradesh starting August 15. It’s anticipated that BSNL 4G services will be activated statewide by the end of September, as the installation of antennas, base transceiver stations (BTS), and core network works are nearing completion.

Reports suggest that Visakhapatnam, including Anakapalli and Alluri Sitarama Raju districts, will boast around 1,000 4G mobile towers by year-end. Presently, Visakhapatnam district has 420 BSNL mobile towers, with an additional 680 planned for swift 4G service deployment. The existing 420 towers will also be upgraded to 4G.

BSNL users situated within 4G network coverage zones can upgrade their 2G/3G SIM cards to 4G SIM cards to experience BSNL’s 4G services.

BSNL’s successful launch of its indigenous 4G network at the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant marks a significant stride in India’s journey towards technological self-reliance and digital transformation. The enhanced connectivity and capabilities this network brings are set to empower the steel plant and contribute to its operational excellence. Moreover, with the impending expansion of 4G services across Andhra Pradesh, BSNL is poised to play a pivotal role in bridging the digital divide and fostering economic growth in the region.
