While Sony has yet to officially confirm any details about a new gaming console, it’s widely believed to be in development. Expectations are high for improved ray tracing, enhanced GPU performance, and other upgrades. A recent leak may have given us our first glimpse of the final design and even the name of this mid-generation PlayStation 5 refresh, courtesy of leaker Bilbil-Kun.

Is This Our First Look at the Sony PS5 Pro?

According to the leaker via a Dealabs report, Sony seems to have settled on the name PlayStation 5 Pro. This aligns with the leaked hardware specifications and Sony’s likely desire to position it as their top-tier gaming console.

The report also includes a sketch of the console, allegedly based on the design printed on the retail packaging. The sketch suggests a design nearly identical to the PS5 Slim, sharing the same overall shape. Two USB Type-C ports and a power button are visible on the front.

The most noticeable difference between the Pro and the Slim appears to be the three black stripes on the detachable covers, compared to just one on the Slim. The report also states that the Sony PS5 Pro will be slightly thicker than the Slim variant. For reference, the PS5 Slim measures 16.9×43.1×35.9cm.

Sony PS5 Pro: What We Know So Far

The Sony PS5 Pro is anticipated to feature a powerful GPU and a faster CPU mode. Reports suggest CPU rendering on the new model will be approximately 45 percent faster than the standard PS5. It may also include a more powerful ray tracing architecture, potentially three times faster than the regular PS5. The CPU on the PS5 Pro is expected to be the same but is rumored to have a new mode with a higher clock speed of 3.85GHz. The Sony PS5 Pro is also said to see improvements in read/write speeds by 28 percent to 576GB/s. For developers, Sony reportedly wants a single game package that supports both the PS5 and PS5 Pro.
