iPhone SE 4: A Budget-Friendly Leap with Apple Intelligence

iPhone SE 4 rumors: Expect a modern iPhone with Apple Intelligence, a larger OLED display, Face ID, and USB-C, possibly replacing the iPhone 14 in Apple's lineup.

With the iPhone 16 series now in the hands of eager customers, it’s natural to ponder what Apple has in store next. The spotlight isn’t on the iPhone 17 just yet, and it’s not even a year away.

The upcoming star of the show should be the iPhone SE 4, unless any unforeseen delays occur. We can likely expect its debut next spring, which means we’re roughly six months away from its unveiling. This will mark the first iPhone SE update in three years, and it’s poised to be the most significant overhaul the iPhone SE has ever seen.

Design and Display Enhancements

Since the iPhone SE 2 in 2020, Apple has adhered to the iPhone 8 design, characterized by a 4.7″ LCD display, rounded edges, and a home button. However, the next iPhone SE is expected to break free from this mold.

Anticipations point towards a design reminiscent of the iPhone 14, featuring a larger 6.1″ OLED display, flat edges, Face ID, and the smaller notch from that era. While it’s likely to retain a single camera instead of the iPhone 14’s dual camera setup, another rumor suggests the addition of the Action Button, initially introduced on the iPhone 15 Pro and now present across the entire iPhone 16 lineup. This would replace the mute switch, offering iPhone SE users a new customizable button.

Embracing USB-C

Unlike the iPhone 14 and the current iPhone SE, Apple is expected to bid farewell to the Lightning connector on the iPhone SE 4. This shift is primarily driven by EU regulation mandating a unified USB-C connector for all devices with a charging port. Apple initiated the transition to USB-C with the iPhone 15 series last year, and the next iPhone SE will be the final iPhone to make the switch. iPhone SE users will soon enjoy the convenience of charging their phones with the same cable used for their iPads and laptops.

Apple Intelligence Integration

Reports from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman suggest that the next iPhone SE will support Apple Intelligence, likely powered by an A18 chip and 8GB of RAM. This move might raise a few eyebrows, but it appears that Apple is committed to extending Apple Intelligence accessibility, even to its most affordable new iPhone.

Apple Intelligence brings a host of new features, including Writing Tools, Photos Clean Up, Genmoji, Image Playground, Notification Summaries, and a revamped Siri.

iPhone SE Pricing

Rumors indicate a price increase for the next-generation iPhone SE, potentially reaching ₹40,750. However, this remains a reasonable price point, considering it offers a modern iPhone experience for under ₹45,000.

Apple currently offers the iPhone 14 for ₹49,900, so a modernized version at an even lower price would be an attractive proposition. It’s likely that Apple would discontinue the iPhone 14 after the next iPhone SE’s release, potentially leading to the following iPhone lineup:

  • iPhone SE: ₹40,750
  • iPhone 15: ₹55,900
  • iPhone 15 Plus: ₹63,900
  • iPhone 16: ₹63,900
  • iPhone 16 Plus: ₹71,900
  • iPhone 16 Pro: ₹80,900
  • iPhone 16 Pro Max: ₹91,900

This would create a cohesive iPhone lineup with USB-C across the board. It would be unusual for the more affordable iPhone SE to support Apple Intelligence while the pricier iPhone 15 does not, so it wouldn’t be surprising if Apple discontinued the latter as well.
