Kia Motors has made a significant entry into the Indian luxury EV market with the launch of its flagship electric SUV, the EV9. Priced at ₹1.3 crore, the EV9 arrives in a single, fully loaded GT-line variant, boasting an all-wheel drive system and a spacious 6-seat configuration. This positions it as a direct competitor to established players in the segment, such as the BMW iX, Audi Q8 e-tron, and the Mercedes EQS and EQE SUVs.
A Luxurious Cabin Experience
The Kia EV9 offers a refined and technologically advanced interior designed to provide both comfort and convenience. Customers can choose between two distinct interior trims, both of which feature premium leatherette upholstery, creating a sophisticated ambiance. The dashboard is dominated by dual 12.3-inch screens that provide access to a wide range of features, including navigation, entertainment, and vehicle settings. Wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity ensure seamless integration with smartphones, while a 4-spoke steering wheel puts essential controls within easy reach of the driver.
Further enhancing the driving experience, the EV9 incorporates a heads-up display that projects key information onto the windshield, allowing the driver to keep their eyes on the road. A 3-zone climate control system ensures optimal comfort for all occupants, regardless of their seating position. The EV9’s commitment to passenger well-being is evident in features such as ambient lighting, which creates a relaxing atmosphere, and a dual sunroof that allows natural light to flood the cabin. Rear seat passengers are treated to ventilation and massage functions, ensuring a truly luxurious travel experience.
Performance and Efficiency
Under the hood, the EV9 is powered by a 99.9 kWh battery pack, which delivers an impressive claimed range of 561 km on a single charge. This makes it a practical option for both daily commutes and longer journeys. The EV9’s dual electric motors, one on each axle, provide a combined output of 383 BHP and a substantial 700 Nm of torque, ensuring brisk acceleration and effortless overtaking.
Charging Convenience
Recognizing the importance of convenient charging, Kia has equipped the EV9 with DC charging capabilities. This allows the battery to be recharged from 10% to 80% in approximately 24 minutes, minimizing downtime and maximizing time on the road.
With its combination of luxury, performance, and advanced technology, the Kia EV9 is poised to make a strong statement in the Indian electric vehicle market. It offers a compelling alternative to traditional luxury SUVs, demonstrating Kia’s commitment to innovation and sustainable mobility.
