Android 15 Rolls Out
Explore Android 15's rollout to Google Pixel, enhanced APIs, and user-focused features, now available via AOSP. Update coming soon.

Google recently announced the release of Android 15, marking a significant update for the popular mobile operating system. Officially made public on Tuesday, this latest version underwent extensive beta testing before its launch. The source code for Android 15 has been made available through the Android Open Source Project (AOSP), allowing developers the opportunity to tailor the OS for diverse devices and enhance its functionalities. Google has confirmed that this update will be rolled out to its Google Pixel smartphones in the next few weeks, starting with the most recent models. This move underscores the company’s commitment to maintaining Android at the forefront of technological advancements, following its achievement of platform stability months earlier.

Android 15 Moves to AOSP

The transition of Android 15 to AOSP provides a robust framework for developers, granting access to the core system code of Android. This repository not only enables them to contribute to the ongoing development of the OS but also to innovate and optimize custom variants to better serve their specific hardware needs.

Pixel Smartphones to Get the Update in Coming Weeks

The rollout of Android 15 will begin with Google Pixel devices, with anticipation building around the inclusion of the latest Pixel 9 series. The update will subsequently be made available to devices from other original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) such as Samsung, Honor, iQOO, Lenovo, Motorola, Nothing, OnePlus, Oppo, Realme, Sharp, Sony, Tecno, Vivo, and Xiaomi over the following months.

Enhanced Features and User Experience

Android 15 introduces several API enhancements aimed at refining app performance across all Android versions. New APIs such as ApplicationStartInfo, PdfRenderer, OpenJDK, and SQLite are part of this update, enabling developers to fine-tune apps more effectively. Additional features include Matrix44 and advanced canvas drawing capabilities, which support 3D manipulations and complex shape creations through shader intersections.

The update also focuses on improving internationalization and typography, introducing new font families and enhancing text justification across languages. Android 15 enhances the multimedia experience as well, with updates that include audio loudness adjustment, HDR headroom control, and improved camera functions for low-light conditions.

For everyday users, Android 15 brings practical improvements such as the ability to save favorite split-screen app combinations and Talkback support for Braille displays. The OS now offers system-level support for app archiving and unarchiving, single sign-in with passkeys, and a private space for securely storing personal information.
