Enhanced Privacy and Security
Android 15 introduces Private Space, a feature that allows users to secure sensitive apps behind an additional layer of authentication. Apps placed in Private Space are isolated from the main app list and remain hidden from the app drawer, recent apps, notifications, and settings.
Android 15 also includes Theft Detection Lock, a security measure designed to automatically lock a stolen device and safeguard personal information. This feature, available on most devices running Android 10 and later, utilizes device sensors and AI to identify motions associated with theft, such as a sudden grab and run. A related feature, Remote Lock, enables users to lock their phone from another device using their phone number, even if Find My Device is deactivated.
Optimized for Foldables and Tablets
Android 15 brings optimizations for tablets and foldable phones, including the ability to pin the taskbar for quick access to frequently used apps and app pairs. Unpinning the taskbar is equally easy with a dedicated toggle.
October Pixel Feature Drop
Coinciding with the Android 15 launch, Google announced its October Pixel feature drop, which includes hands-free access to Google Gemini on Pixel Buds Pro, Pro 2, and Pixel Buds A-series earbuds.
Camera and App Enhancements
Pixel 8 and newer models receive improvements to Night Sight and Astrophotography modes, along with underwater photography and video recording capabilities. Audio Magic Eraser helps isolate sounds during video recordings, the Pixel Weather app gains a pollen tracker, and the thermometer app on Pixel 8 Pro now supports the camera viewfinder.
