Apple has officially launched its latest iPhones, the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus. While the design remains similar to its predecessors, these new models come with notable upgrades, including brighter displays, an innovative Camera Control button, and the powerful A18 chip that enables Apple Intelligence features.
Brighter Displays on iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus
The iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus retain the familiar 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch screen sizes, respectively. However, the displays now boast impressive peak brightness levels of 2000 nits, making them significantly brighter than previous models. The phones also maintain the squared-off sides, Dynamic Island at the top, and the convenient USB-C port at the bottom.
Camera Control Button Debuts with iPhone 16
A significant change is the introduction of a vertical camera island on the back, housing two cameras and a flash. The iconic Ring/Silent Button has been replaced with the Action Button, previously exclusive to the Pro models. Additionally, there’s an all-new Camera Control button located just below the Side Button.
This Camera Control button, seamlessly integrated into the surface and protected by sapphire glass, offers intuitive camera operation. A simple click launches the camera, another click captures a photo, and a click-and-hold initiates video recording. It provides tactile feedback through the Taptic Engine, distinguishing between full clicks and lighter presses for a cleaner preview or access to settings adjustments.
The iPhone 16 features a 48MP main camera capable of capturing 24MP shots and 2x zoom using the middle 12MP pixels. It’s accompanied by a new 12MP ultrawide camera with auto-focus, now capable of capturing macro photos. This new camera setup also enables Spatial Capture, including the ability to shoot Spatial Photos.
Apple’s A18 Chip Brings Apple Intelligence to iPhone 16 Duo
Powering the iPhone 16 duo is the cutting-edge A18 chip, built on a 3nm process. This chip delivers a remarkable 30 percent speed boost compared to the A16 chip found in the iPhone 15. Notably, these new iPhone 16 models will be the first vanilla iPhones to support Apple Intelligence, with features set to roll out gradually after launch.
The A18 chip also promises 30 percent better gaming performance and boasts hardware-level ray-tracing capabilities. This allows the new iPhone 16 duo to run Pro-exclusive games like Resident Evil: Village. Additionally, Tencent’s Honor of Kings will be available on iPhone 16.
Apple claims a “big boost to battery life” but has not provided specific figures.
iPhone 16 Continues the Same Price as Before
The iPhone 16 starts at $799, while the iPhone 16 Plus is priced at $899. Pre-orders begin on September 13, with availability starting from September 20 onwards.
