Google has announced the expansion of its AI Overviews feature in Search to six new countries, including India, in the coming weeks. AI Overviews was initially launched in the US in May to enhance user experience by providing quick information summaries on the web. This expansion follows extensive testing and positive feedback received from users in the US and globally through Search Labs.
India-Specific Features
In India, Google will be rolling out AI Overviews in both English and Hindi. Additionally, popular India-first features that were appreciated during the Search Labs experiment will also be included. These features allow users to easily switch between English and Hindi results using a language toggle button and listen to responses using Text-To-Speech functionality.
Positive User Engagement
Since its launch in the US, Google has observed increased user engagement and satisfaction with Search results among those utilizing AI Overviews. Users seeking information on complex topics are particularly benefitting from this feature, leading to more in-depth exploration and repeat usage.
Global Rollout and Testing
AI Overviews will be gradually rolled out in the new markets over several weeks. Google’s testing in these markets indicates a preference for Search with AI Overviews, with users finding their search results more helpful. In India, it was observed that users listen to AI Overviews responses more frequently than in other countries.
Enhanced Website Accessibility
Google is introducing additional methods for users to explore relevant websites while searching. A new right-hand link display for AI Overviews on desktop, accessible on mobile by tapping site icons, will facilitate this. Furthermore, the company is currently testing the integration of links to relevant web pages directly within the text of AI Overviews, making it even easier for users to access sites of interest.
