Apple’s iPhone 16 series may have just launched, but rumors about the iPhone 17 family are already circulating. While still a year away, these rumors suggest some notable upgrades and changes for Apple’s 2025 iPhones.
Camera Improvements
Analyst Jeff Pu predicts significant camera enhancements for the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max. Both models are rumored to receive a 48-megapixel telephoto camera, a considerable jump from the 12-megapixel telephoto lens in the iPhone 16 Pro models. The front-facing camera is also expected to see an upgrade to 12 megapixels.
RAM and Dynamic Island
Pu also suggests that the iPhone 17 Pro series will boast 12GB of RAM, a bump up from the 8GB found in the current Pro models. This increase could lead to performance improvements, particularly for demanding tasks and Apple Intelligence features. Additionally, the iPhone 17 Pro Max may feature a smaller “metalens” for the Face ID system, resulting in a “much narrowed Dynamic Island.”
Display and Processor
Both iPhone 17 Pro models are expected to retain their current display sizes: 6.3-inch for the Pro and 6.9-inch for the Pro Max. They will likely be powered by the new A19 Pro chip, manufactured using TSMC’s 3nm process.
iPhone 17 Air (Slim)
Rumors suggest that a new model, possibly called the iPhone 17 Air or iPhone 17 Slim, will replace the iPhone Plus. This model is said to feature a 6.6-inch display, 8GB of RAM, and the Dynamic Island. It may also be the first iPhone to utilize Apple’s in-house 5G modem.
iPhone 17 Air Specifications and Design
The iPhone 17 Air is rumored to sport a 48-megapixel rear camera and a 24-megapixel front camera. It is expected to have an aluminum frame and an entirely new design, according to Pu. The A19 chip, also built on a 3nm process, is anticipated to power both the iPhone 17 Air and the standard iPhone 17.
Anticipated Launch
Based on Apple’s typical release schedule, the iPhone 17 series, including the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max, and the new iPhone 17 Air, is expected to launch in September 2025. More details about the series are likely to emerge in the coming months.
