KTM, the renowned Austrian motorcycle manufacturer, is set to make a splash at the upcoming EICMA motorcycle show in Milan, Italy. The company has confirmed plans to unveil three new models manufactured in India, specifically designed to cater to the growing demand for adventure and street motorcycles: the KTM 390 Adventure, the 390 Enduro, and the 390 SMC. This strategic move underscores KTM’s commitment to the Indian market and its ambition to capture a larger share of the global motorcycle scene.
KTM 390 Adventure: A Trio of Thrills
The KTM 390 Adventure, already a popular choice among adventure touring enthusiasts, is getting a significant refresh with the introduction of three distinct variants: the 390 Adventure X, the 390 Adventure R, and the 390 Adventure S.
- The 390 Adventure R takes the adventure spirit to new heights. Designed for serious off-road riding, it boasts a long-travel suspension with 230 mm of travel, ensuring a smooth and controlled ride even on the most challenging terrains. The R variant also features larger wheels, with a 21-inch front and an 18-inch rear, contributing to its off-road prowess. These larger wheels, combined with the long-travel suspension, result in a seat height of 885 mm, making it ideal for taller riders.
- The 390 Adventure X, while sharing the same robust bodywork as the R variant, adopts a more accessible approach. It is equipped with 19-inch front and 17-inch rear wheels, along with a reduced suspension travel of 200 mm. These adjustments translate to a lower seat height of 825 mm, making it more manageable for a wider range of riders. In a move to keep the price competitive, the X variant features an LCD dash instead of the TFT screen found on the R variant and forgoes features like cornering ABS.
- Details about the 390 Adventure S remain shrouded in mystery, adding an element of intrigue to KTM’s EICMA presentation. It is speculated that this variant might offer a balance between the off-road focus of the R and the accessibility of the X, potentially appealing to riders seeking versatility.
KTM 390 Enduro and 390 SMC: Ready to Race
KTM is also expanding its presence in the lightweight enduro and supermoto segments with the introduction of the 390 Enduro and 390 SMC. Both models embrace KTM’s “Ready to Race” philosophy, drawing inspiration from the company’s formidable off-road competition machines. They share distinctive design elements, including aggressive “mold-in” graphics, minimalist bodywork, and flat, long seats that provide optimal rider movement.
- The 390 Enduro is poised to be a formidable contender in the lightweight enduro category. Available in both 390cc and 125cc versions, it caters to riders of varying skill levels and preferences. The 390cc variant is expected to deliver exhilarating performance, while the 125cc version offers a more accessible entry point into the world of enduro riding.
- The 390 SMC brings the thrill of supermoto racing to the streets. It is anticipated that the SMC, like the Enduro, will be offered in both 390cc and 125cc versions, providing options for both experienced supermoto riders and those new to the sport. The SMC’s agile handling and responsive engine promise an adrenaline-pumping riding experience.
With this trio of new models, KTM is set to make a bold statement at EICMA. The 390 Adventure, 390 Enduro, and 390 SMC represent KTM’s commitment to innovation, performance, and rider satisfaction. These motorcycles are poised to capture the imagination of riders worldwide, further solidifying KTM’s position as a leader in the motorcycle industry.
