Maruti Suzuki India Limited is gearing up to expand its popular S-CNG lineup with the launch of the new Maruti Suzuki Swift CNG on September 12th. This move comes as the company aims to capitalize on the growing demand for CNG vehicles in India.
Z-Series Engine and Expansive Range
The new Maruti Suzuki Swift CNG will be equipped with the same Z-series three-cylinder petrol engine found in the standard Swift. This engine, known for its efficiency and performance, will be offered across an expansive range of trims, giving customers plenty of choices to suit their needs and budget.
Competitive Pricing and Market Positioning
While the standard Swift is priced between Rs. 6.49 lakh and Rs. 9.60 lakh (ex-showroom), the CNG variant is expected to be priced around Rs. 80,000 higher than comparable trims. Despite a slight decrease in power and torque compared to the petrol version, the Swift CNG is poised to be a strong competitor in the CNG hatchback segment, especially against rivals like the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios and Tata Tiago.
Maruti Suzuki’s CNG Strategy and Future Plans
The launch of the Swift CNG aligns with Maruti Suzuki’s ambitious goal of selling over six lakh CNG vehicles this financial year. The company is also planning to expand the use of the new Z12E engine in other models and is even rumored to be developing a localized strong hybrid mill based on this powertrain.
In addition to its CNG initiatives, Maruti Suzuki is also looking towards the future with the launch of its first electric vehicle, the eVX, next year. The company also has plans to introduce more SUVs, including a three-row Grand Vitara, further strengthening its presence in the Indian automotive market.
The launch of the new Maruti Suzuki Swift CNG marks a significant step in the company’s CNG strategy. With its competitive pricing, efficient engine, and expansive range of trims, the Swift CNG is set to appeal to a wide range of customers seeking an economical and eco-friendly driving option. As Maruti Suzuki continues to expand its CNG and electric vehicle offerings, it is well-positioned to maintain its leadership position in the Indian automotive market.
