Netflix Ends Support for Older Apple Devices: What You Need to Know

Netflix Ends Support for Older Apple Device
Netflix is dropping support for older Apple devices stuck on iOS 16. iPhone 8, X, and some iPads will be affected.

Popular video-streaming service Netflix recently announced that it will soon discontinue support for a range of Apple devices that are still running on iOS 16 and iPadOS 16. This move, part of Netflix’s ongoing efforts to ensure optimal performance and security for its users, will impact several older iPhones and iPads.

The Update and its Implications

When users of these older Apple devices attempt to update their Netflix app, they will be met with a notification stating, “We’ve updated the Netflix app! To use the latest version, install iOS17 or later.” While users can continue using the current version of the app for the time being, they won’t receive any further updates, including crucial bug fixes and security patches. Eventually, the app will cease to function altogether on these devices.

Which Devices Are Affected?

The list of affected devices comprises those that were not eligible for the iOS 17 update due to hardware limitations. These include the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, iPhone X, iPad 5th Gen, and the iPad Pro 1st Gen. The iPhone X, in particular, was launched back in 2017 and has recently been declared a vintage product by Apple, implying that it will no longer receive any technical support or repairs from the company.

This move by Netflix underscores the increasingly rapid pace of technological advancement. While it might be disappointing for users of older devices, it also highlights the importance of keeping up with software updates to ensure the best possible user experience and security.

This shift by Netflix serves as a reminder of the ongoing technological evolution and the need to adapt. While it might be an inconvenience for some users, it ultimately pushes for a more secure and up-to-date streaming experience for the majority.
