London-based technology company Nothing has confirmed that its latest smartphone lineup, the Nothing Phone (3a) Series, is being manufactured locally in India. This move aligns with the brand’s dedication to leveraging India’s rich manufacturing ecosystem, contributing to the local economy, and promoting technological innovation.
Strengthening Local Manufacturing and Employment
The company has made significant strides in job creation, with more than 500 employees working at its factory in Chennai, where the Phone (3a) Series is being produced. Notably, 95% of the workforce comprises women, showcasing Nothing’s commitment to local employment. By expanding its local workforce, Nothing reinforces its support for the ‘Make in India’ initiative, further solidifying its presence in the country.
Impressive Growth and Market Expansion
The announcement comes amid a period of rapid expansion for Nothing, which has witnessed a remarkable 577% year-over-year growth in India’s smartphone sector in 2024, as per Counterpoint Research’s Monthly India Smartphone tracker. This growth has been fueled by the strong sales performance of the Phone (2a) Series and the success of its sub-brand, CMF by Nothing. Additionally, Nothing recently crossed $1 billion in lifetime revenue, achieving this milestone within just four years since its launch in October 2020.
Strengthening After-Sales Support and Retail Network
As part of its ongoing commitment to the Indian market, Nothing continues to enhance its after-sales support network. The company now operates five exclusive service centers across Bengaluru, Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, and Chennai, in addition to five priority desks and 300 multi-brand service centers. Furthermore, Nothing’s retail presence has significantly expanded from 2,000 stores at the start of last year to an impressive 7,000 stores currently, reinforcing its growing market presence in India’s smartphone landscape.
A Blend of Global Design and Local Expertise
The Nothing Phone (3a) Series seamlessly combines British design excellence with Indian manufacturing expertise. While the smartphones are designed in London, their production in India highlights the successful integration of global innovation and local production, delivering cutting-edge devices that appeal to consumers both in India and across the globe.
