Offline Google Maps Navigation Arrives on Android Smartwatches
Google Maps brings offline navigation to Wear OS smartwatches, starting with Pixel Watch 3. Explore new places without worrying about connectivity! Find routes, recommendations & more, even offline.

Google is steadily improving the capabilities of Google Maps on its wearable devices. Recent reports indicate that the newly released Pixel Watch 3 boasts offline Google Maps support, and this functionality will be available on other Wear OS smartwatches in the near future. This allows users to navigate without an internet connection, increasing the convenience and versatility of Google Maps on their smartwatches.

Offline Maps on Pixel Watch 2

The new offline maps feature is currently found in the Google Maps for Wear OS Beta version 11.140.0701.W on the Pixel Watch 2, and it’s anticipated to expand to other Wear OS devices soon. Upon updating to the Beta version, users will encounter a banner stating, “Offline maps on the phone are auto-downloaded to the watch.” The app will also feature a dedicated “Offline maps” button conveniently located above the Settings option.

Automatic Downloads and Storage Management

In addition to syncing offline maps already present on the smartphone, the watch app will automatically download a map of the user’s current area. Furthermore, users will have visibility into the storage space occupied by downloaded offline maps and the ability to delete them easily.

Offline Maps: A Reliable Backup

While offline maps may not offer the full range of features available in online mode, they serve as a reliable backup, especially for individuals traveling to unfamiliar or remote locations.

Recent Google Maps Enhancements in India

Google has recently introduced six new features to its Maps tool for users in India, including Flyover Navigation, AI-powered Narrow road avoidance, Metro ticket booking, EV Charging station integration, and Reporting of road closures. These features aim to streamline navigation and provide a more comprehensive mapping experience.

Addressing Flyover Confusion

To tackle the common problem of flyover navigation, Google Maps now highlights flyovers alongside recommended routes in 40 Indian cities, aiding drivers in anticipating upcoming elevated roadways.

Curated Recommendations for Exploration

In collaboration with local experts, Google has compiled a list of recommended places in ten major cities and tourist spots, aiming to enhance exploration experiences for users. These recommendations are accessible on Android, iOS, Android Auto, and Apple CarPlay.
