Redmi has made a splash in the Indian smartphone market with the launch of its latest entry-level device, the Redmi A4 5G. Priced competitively at Rs 8,499, the A4 5G is making headlines for being the first phone in its price segment to boast the powerful Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 processor. This move is set to redefine expectations for affordable smartphones in India, offering users a taste of flagship-level performance at a budget-friendly price point.

Price and Availability in India

The Redmi A4 5G comes in two storage variants to cater to different needs and budgets. The base variant with 4GB RAM and 64GB internal storage is priced at Rs 8,499, while the higher-end variant offers 4GB RAM and 128GB storage for Rs 9,499. Eager consumers can get their hands on the device starting November 27th through various channels, including Amazon, Mi.com, and Xiaomi’s extensive network of retail stores across India. The A4 5G is available in two stylish color options: Starry Black and Sparkle Purple.

Design and Display

The Redmi A4 5G features a modern design with a large 6.88-inch HD+ display that dominates the front of the device. The display boasts a smooth 120Hz refresh rate, delivering a fluid user experience whether scrolling through social media or playing graphically intensive games. With a peak brightness of 600 nits, the screen remains visible even under bright sunlight. Redmi has also prioritized eye comfort with the inclusion of eye protection technology like Low Blue Light, TUV Circadian certification, and Flicker-free technology, ensuring prolonged usage without strain. The phone sports a sleek flat frame and a glossy back panel, reminiscent of the Redmi A3 (4G), but with a more refined and premium finish. A round camera module houses the phone’s impressive camera system. Adding to its user-friendly design, the A4 5G retains the 3.5mm headphone jack, a feature often omitted in modern smartphones. Security is addressed with a fingerprint sensor seamlessly integrated into the power button, providing quick and convenient device unlocking.

Performance and Software

Under the hood, the Redmi A4 5G is powered by the cutting-edge Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 chipset, a significant leap in performance for the entry-level segment. This octa-core processor, built on Samsung’s advanced 4nm architecture, is designed to handle demanding tasks with ease. It features two Cortex-A78 cores clocked at up to 2GHz for high-performance needs and six Cortex-A55 cores clocked at up to 1.8GHz for power efficiency. The processor is further complemented by LPDDR4x RAM and UFS 3.1 storage, ensuring smooth multitasking and fast app loading times. On the software front, the A4 5G runs Xiaomi’s latest HyperOS, based on Android 14. This ensures a clean and optimized user experience with access to the latest Android features and security updates. Redmi is also promising long-term software support with two years of Android updates and an impressive four years of security updates, guaranteeing a secure and up-to-date user experience for years to come.

Camera Capabilities

The Redmi A4 5G packs a capable dual-camera setup headlined by a 50-megapixel primary sensor. This high-resolution sensor aims to capture detailed and vibrant images in various lighting conditions. The camera system is enhanced with AI features that optimize image quality and offer various shooting modes. Users can experiment with features like time-lapse photography, portrait mode for professional-looking bokeh effects, 10x zoom for capturing distant subjects, and a dedicated film camera mode for adding creative filters and effects. For selfies and video calls, the phone features a 5-megapixel front-facing camera.

Battery and Charging

To keep up with the demands of modern users, the Redmi A4 5G is equipped with a substantial 5,160mAh battery. This large battery capacity promises all-day usage on a single charge, even with heavy usage involving gaming, video streaming, and browsing. While the phone supports 18W fast charging for quick top-ups, it’s worth noting that a 33W charger is available separately for Rs 1,999, offering even faster charging speeds for those who need it.

The Redmi A4 5G appears to be a well-rounded package for budget-conscious consumers in India, offering a compelling combination of performance, features, and affordability. It’s poised to disrupt the entry-level segment by bringing features and specifications previously unseen in this price bracket.
