Skoda Unveils Kylaq, Its New SUV with Sanskrit-Rooted Name, Set to Launch in Early 2025
Skoda's upcoming subcompact SUV, the Kylaq, is set to launch in early 2025. With a Sanskrit-rooted name and a design inspired by the Kushaq, it promises a blend of style, features, and performance. Get ready for a new contender in the compact SUV segment!

Skoda has officially announced the name of its upcoming subcompact SUV – the “Kylaq” – with a launch planned for early 2025. The name, derived from a Sanskrit term meaning “crystal,” was chosen through a public contest that required entries to begin with ‘K,’ end with ‘Q,’ and have no more than two syllables.

Kylaq’s Design and Features

While Skoda hasn’t fully revealed the Kylaq’s design, teasers and spy shots indicate that it will carry the brand’s signature design language seen in models like the Kushaq. It’s expected to share elements like the front design, alloy wheels, and taillamps with the Kushaq.

Built on the MQB-A0-IN platform, the Kylaq may have front doors similar to the Kushaq but with shorter rear doors. It is also anticipated to have high ground clearance and unique fender shapes.

Inside, the Kylaq is expected to be well-appointed, possibly featuring the same 10.25-inch infotainment system found in the Kushaq, with support for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Higher trims are likely to offer features such as automatic climate control, wireless charging, ventilated seats, and a sunroof.

Engine and Performance

Under the hood, the Kylaq is likely to house the same 1.0-litre 3-cylinder TSI petrol engine used in the Kushaq and Slavia, capable of delivering 114 bhp and 178 Nm of torque. Transmission options might include a 6-speed torque converter automatic or a 6-speed manual.

Pricing and Competition

While Skoda hasn’t confirmed the pricing, the Kylaq is expected to start around ₹8 lakh to stay competitive. It will compete with compact SUVs like the Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Mahindra XUV300, Tata Nexon, Maruti Suzuki Fronx, Maruti Suzuki Brezza, and Toyota Taisor.

With its unique Sanskrit-rooted name, the Skoda Kylaq promises to be a compelling addition to the subcompact SUV segment. Its expected blend of stylish design, modern features, and efficient performance, all at a competitive price point, could make it a popular choice among Indian car buyers. As we await its official launch in early 2025, the Kylaq certainly has the potential to shake up the market and give its established rivals a run for their money.
