The Snapdragon 8 Elite, Qualcomm’s forthcoming flagship smartphone chip, is poised to redefine the landscape of high-end mobile devices launching later this year and into the next. Qualcomm’s annual Snapdragon Summit is scheduled earlier than usual this year, from October 21-23, where the company will unveil this groundbreaking chip. Equipped with Oryon CPU cores, akin to those found in Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Elite/Plus chips for laptops, the Snapdragon 8 Elite is set to deliver unparalleled performance.
Snapdragon 8 Elite: The New Name
While initially expected to be named the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, recent reports suggest Qualcomm’s next flagship mobile chip will be dubbed the Snapdragon 8 Elite. As in previous years, Xiaomi is anticipated to lead the charge with the Xiaomi 15, the first smartphone to feature the Snapdragon 8 Elite. OnePlus and iQOO are also expected to follow suit with Snapdragon 8 Elite-powered phones in China, timed for the Single’s Day shopping festival.
Unmatched Performance
The Snapdragon 8 Elite is projected to shatter performance records. Leaked AnTuTu scores hint at a staggering three million-plus points, solidifying its position as the most powerful mobile chip to date. Geekbench 6 results further underscore its prowess, with impressive single-core and multi-core scores of 3,000 and 10,628, respectively.
Oryon CPU Cores: The Powerhouse
This exceptional performance stems from the custom ARM-based Oryon CPU cores, engineered for superior speed and efficiency. The Snapdragon 8 Elite is rumored to boast an octa-core CPU cluster comprising two high-performance cores clocked at 4 GHz and six efficiency cores clocked at 2.7 GHz. With a power budget of 14.2 watts, devices equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Elite are likely to house larger batteries.
Cutting-Edge Technology
Fabricated using TSMC’s N3E manufacturing process, the Snapdragon 8 Elite promises to be one of the most efficient chips on the market. Additional enhancements include new Adreno graphics with improved ray-tracing, a novel network modem, an LTE modem, and advanced imaging capabilities.
Price and Availability
Information circulating on Weibo suggests the Snapdragon 8 Elite carries a price tag of $190, a significant 20% increase over the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. While Qualcomm hasn’t officially confirmed these figures, this higher cost is likely to be passed on to consumers, resulting in pricier smartphones featuring the Snapdragon 8 Elite.
The Future is Elite
The Xiaomi 15, OnePlus 13, iQOO 13, and Honor Magic 7 are among the first smartphones expected to launch with the Snapdragon 8 Elite, followed by the Galaxy S25 series and others. The Snapdragon 8 Elite represents the pinnacle of mobile chip technology, setting the stage for a new era of flagship smartphones.
