The World Webtoon Awards, established by the South Korean Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Creative Content Agency (KOCCA), recently concluded its first ceremony. The awards aim to increase global awareness of webtoons, a significant part of South Korea’s cultural exports.

Award Highlights

Solo Leveling received the Grand Prize, further solidifying its global popularity. The award was accepted by Redice Studio’s CEO Jang Jung-sook, as the manhwa’s original artist, Jang Sung-rak (DUBU), passed away in 2022.
Other notable webtoons like Lookism and Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint were also recognized.

Solo Leveling’s Continued Success

Despite concluding three years ago, the original Solo Leveling manhwa continues to achieve widespread recognition. It has been read over 14 billion times and is poised for further success with the release of Solo Leveling: Ragnarok and the upcoming second season of the anime. Ragnarok debuted in Korea in August and launched in Japan on October 1st via Piccoma. Crunchyroll recently announced the release dates for Season 2 and the -ReAwakening- compilation film.
