YouTube is continually improving its platform to optimize the experience for both viewers and creators. The latest round of updates introduces more than two dozen improvements across mobile, web, TV, and YouTube Music, designed to enhance user engagement and interaction with content. These updates include improved browsing controls, enhanced personalization tools, and features aimed at making the platform more user-friendly.
Miniplayer Gets a Makeover
The YouTube mobile app’s miniplayer has been significantly upgraded, allowing for greater multitasking capabilities. Users can now resize and move the miniplayer, enabling them to browse for other content while continuing to watch a video. This is ideal for users who like to add videos to their queue without interrupting their current viewing experience.
Collaborative Playlists and AI-Powered Thumbnails
YouTube is also enhancing the playlist experience. A new collaborative playlist feature allows users to invite friends and family to contribute to a playlist via a special link or, coming soon to TVs, a QR code. Additionally, playlist creators can now customize thumbnails by uploading their own photos or using generative AI to create AI-powered thumbnails based on a chosen theme.
New Sleep Timer Feature
A new Sleep Timer feature has been introduced for those who tend to fall asleep while watching videos. This feature allows users to set a timer that automatically pauses the video after a specified duration, promoting better screen time management. Previously tested with Premium members, the sleep timer is now available to all users on mobile devices.
Earn Badges and Showcase Achievements
YouTube is introducing badges to acknowledge and reward user engagement and support. These badges celebrate milestones such as being an early paid member of a creator’s channel or completing quizzes. Music fans can earn badges for being a top listener of their favorite artists. Users can proudly display these badges in the “You” tab.
